Benchmark Family Services, Inc. was founded in 1996 and moved into its current home, a purpose-built facility on Ohio Street in Watertown, NY in September 2002. Since its inception, the program has undergone several changes, relocations, and continued growth in providing services in New York’s North Country.
Benchmark currently has a staff of about 50 full- and part-time members, including regular and special education teachers, teaching assistants, 1:1 aides for special needs students, speech, occupational, and physical therapists, psychologists, a nurse, and administrators.
In the average school year, Benchmark’s Ohio Street location provides on-site classes to about 120 children aged 3 and 4, approximately half of whom have an IEP (Individual Education Plan) to ensure their special needs are met. Additionally, another 150 students are enrolled in Full Day Pre-K and Universal Pre-K programs taught and administered by Benchmark in Watertown, Black River, Carthage, and West Carthage, and another 50 students are seen for therapy services off-site.
